East Africa TV

EATV-East Africa Television (Channel 5) is the East Africa 24-hour entertainment free-to-air television channel. It was launched in July 2002. EATV operates from Dar es Salaam, the signal is delivered via satellite to Nairobi and Kampala, where it broadcasts terrestrially.

Hence it is ranked second among all TV stations in Tanzania. EATV's programming covers a variety of issues from News, Current Affairs, Lifestyle, Entertainment and Social facets.

According to the Tanzania Communication Regulatory Authority (TCRA), it registered as East Africa Television with Dr. Reginald Abraham Mengi and Agapitus Leon Nguma as shareholders of each 50 percent of the shares. The East Africa Television has one radio station namely East Africa Radio (EA FM). East Africa radio is the first of its kind in regional broadcasting in Africa.

IPP Group Limited is a manufacturing, bottling and media conglomerate, which includes television, radio stations and newspapers. Its company profile requested at the Business Registrations and Licensing Agency (BRELA) shows that Dr. Reginald Abraham Mengi and Agapitus Leon Nguma are shareholders of IPP Group Limited.

Mengi was born in 1944 in Tanzania. He is a Tanzanian philanthropist, industrialist, media tycoon and the founder/Executive Chairman of IPP Group. He also is the vice president of the National Board of Accountants and Auditors, Tanzania. Mengi was featured in FORBES’ ranking of Africa’s richest people with a fortune of more than $400 million in 2015.

Agapitus Leon Nguma was the former company secretary and shareholder. He passed away on May 1st, 2018. He was also Director of the Guardian Ltd. and Bonite Bottlers Ltd. Lawyer by profession.
