The Nation Media Group (NMG) imekuwa ni sehemu muhimu ya maisha ya umma ya Kenya kwa zaidi ya nusu karne. NMG ilianzishwa na His Highness, Aga Khan, mwaka 1959, kuhimiza maslahi waafrika walio wengi katika harakazi za kuelekea katika uhuru kutoka utawala wa mkoloni, Desemba 1963. Gazeti lake la kwanza, The Nation, lililoanza kuchapishwa 20 Machi 1960 kama sauti ya Waafrika wengi, tangu ianzishwe mpaka sasa, NMG imekuwa kampuni kubwa ya vyombo vya habari binafsi Afrika Mashariki na Kati yenye ofisi zake Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda na Tanzania. Makao yake makuu yapo Nairobi na limeandikishwa kwenye soko la hisa la Nairobi.
Hasa kuanzia miaka ya 1990, NMG imeshuhudia upanuzi mkubwa wa biashara zake na uendelezaji wa mtaji, umeingia kwenye utangazaji pamoja soko la mtandaoni, na kuelekea kwa majirani wake wa Uganda na Tanzania.
Hivi sasa NMG ina biashara ya uchapishaji, uchapaji, usambazaji wa magazeti na majarida, utangazaji wa redio na TV, filamu, bidhaa za burudani na mtandaoni kidijitali, katika nchi za Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda na Tanzania.
Bidhaa zake nchini Kenya ni pamoja na Daily Nation toleo la Jumapili la Sunday Nation, Business Daily, The East African, Taifa Leo, Nation Television (NTV), QFM, Nation Hela na Nation Fm. Bidhaa zake Uganda ni Daily Mirror, Nation Television Uganda (NTV Uganda), Sparks na KFM, kituo cha redio cha Kampala. Bidhaa zake nchini Tanzania ni Mwananchi na The Citizen.
NMG tangu ilipoanzishwa inashikilia viwango vya juu vya hali ya juu ya magazeti; Wakati wa mkutano mkuu wa International Press Institute mwaka 1981, Aga Khan alihimiza uongozi wenye uwajibikaji, ubadilishanaji wa utaalamu wa meneja, mhariri na uhariri kama njia ya kuongeza ubora wa uandishi wa habari na kukuza ubadilishanaji wa waandishi wa habari kimataifa.

Waandishi nchini Tanzania ni Richard Shaba na George Mathew Kilindu kwa mujibu wa wasifu wa kampuni, BRELA kwa Nation Media Group Tanzania Limited.Kampuni kuu imesajiliwa nchini Kenya na kumilikiwa na Aga Khan Development Network Foundation (44.7%). GROUP COMPANY SECRETARY. He was appointed in July 1998 and is the head of the Legal and Administration department. He is a director of the Group’s subsidiary companies. He is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and is also a Certified Public Secretary of Kenya (CPS K) and a member of the Institute of Directors (Kenya). He is an alumni of the Cambridge University Advanced Leadership Programme.
EDITOR-IN-CHIEF. He was appointed on 5 June 2015. He is a member of the Editorial and the Strategy and Investments Committees. He worked for the Nation Media Group as a journalist rising to the position of Managing Editor of the Daily Nation before joining UNICEF as an editor in New York. He also served as UNICEF’s chief of communications in its Nigeria programme. He worked as the Chief Executive Officer of the Standard Media Group before taking up appointment as the Managing Director of Monitor Publications Limited and subsequently at Nation Newspapers division.
Group Human Resources Director. He joined NMG in March 2014. He has over 13 years’ experience in HR leadership and management in the East African region gained mainly from the manufacturing and financial services sectors. Prior to joining NMG, Mr. Kiambi worked with NIC Bank Group as the director, Human Resource from 2006 – 2014. Before that, he worked with BAT from 1994 – 2005 in several capacities as the Group human Resources Manager responsible for BAT Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and the Horn of Africa. He was additionally the Head of HR of Bat Kenya, factory Engineer and manufacturing Manager. Mr. Kiambi holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering, MBA – Employee Relations and professional certifications in various specialized areas in HR.
Managing Director Broadcast Division. He has previously held senior positions in African Media Group Limited (AMGL), Tanzania, TV Africa Kenya & Uganda, Sanyu Television, Uganda and Kenya Television Network (KTN), Kenya. He holds a Masters in Science from University of Liverpool. He joined the Group in 2018 from Aljazeera Media Group where he was the Head of Sales and Distribution, Sub Saharan Africa.
Group Head of Digital. She joined the Group on 15th January 2016 from HT Media India, where she was the Business Head and Publisher for their news websites. She has considerable experience in Digital Media having worked in several capacities in other companies such as Business Head Livemint.com, C.O.O CMYK Multimedia, Group online Editor The Pioneer and Editor HT Estates, Hindustan Times to mention a few.
General Manager Circulation & Distribution. Mr. Walekwa is a Commercial Professional with over 17 years work experience. He has worked in key commercial roles with FMCG companies in the region rising to the level of Director with one of the global telecom companies, (Airtel), Road Masters cycles, as the Regional Marketing Manager for the great lakes region (East Africa & DRC/ Rwanda), Diageo (East African Breweries) as the Brand Manager and also as the divisional Sales Manager.
Group Financial Controller. Hejoined Nation Media Group in 1997 from Deloitte & Touch. He has since then worked as the Group Chief Accountant and the Group Internal Audit Manager before being promoted to Group Financial Controller in June 2008.

Managing Director Newspaper Division. He joined the Group in 2018 from Standard Group where he was the Managing Director, Print Business and Director of Innovation. Prior to Standard Group, he served in PepsiCo as Business Intelligence (BI) Director, Europe and the The Coca-Cola Company as Global Business Change and Performance Manager.
Managing Director Monitor Publications Limited. Has worked in various management roles in the media industry in South Africa and Uganda. From 2003 to mid - 2014, he was the Chief Commercial Officer at New Vision Printing and Publishing. He joined Monitor Publications in March 2015. He was also instrumental in setting up the Uganda Media Owners Association (UMOA) and served as the chairman for three years, until June 2014.
Managing Director Mwananchi Communications Limited, Tanzania. He has over 12 years of Senior Leadership role in sales. Marketing & General Management. He joined Mwananchi Communications Limited as Chief Operating Officer in August 2013 before being appointed to his current position in August 2014. His role entails ensuring that the business is running professionally, efficiently and profitably while maintaining market leadership kin the print media industry in Tanzania. Previously, he worked with Lafarge Tanzania as Commercial Director and as marketing Manager at Coca-Cola Kwanza.
Head of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs. He joined NMG in January 2016 from British American Tobacco where he served in several senior roles in corporate and regulatory affairs responsible for various countries including Indian Ocean Islands (Mauritius, La Reunion, Comoros), Rwanda, Uganda, Horn of Africa (Ethiopia, Somali/Somali Land, Eritrea, South Sudan and Djibouti) and Kenya. He has experience in trade bloc management with emphasis on WTO, EAC, COMESA & AU, regulatory affairs management including general and tax policy formulation, corporate communications, media, reputation and stakeholder management. Clifford is a lawyer by training.
Group Head of Production. Is a qualified mechanical engineer in 1995 having previously worked for Thomas De La Rue (K) LTD and East African Breweries Ltd. He is the Chairman of the Kenya Association of Manufactures, Machakos County Chapter.
GROUP HEAD OF INTERNAL AUDIT. Prior to being appointed the Group Head of Internal Audit, he was the Finance Manager at Mwananchi Communications Limited (NMG’s subsidiary in Tanzania), served as the Management Accountant at the Nation Couriers Division (NCD), the Revenue Accountant and Financial Accountant at NMG among other roles within the Finance Department.
Marketing Manager. She joined Nation Media Group in May 2013. She has over 15 years’ experience in Sales and Marketing, 10 of which have been in Brand and Marketing Management for leading brands in East Africa. Prior to joining Nation Media Group, she worked for Nestle Foods Kenya Limited, PZ Cussons and Haco Tiger Brands.

Chairman. He retired from NMG as the Group CEO on 31st October 2006 after working for the Company for 13 years. He was appointed a non-executive director in December 2006 and was elected the Chairman of the Board in September 2009. Holds a Ph.D and an MA from Harvard University and a Bfrom Northwestern University (USA) and is a Professor of the School of Media and Public Affairs at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. (USA). He joined the board in December 1995. Prof. Huebner is a non-executive director and is the Chairman of the Nominations and Governance Committee and is a member of the Strategy and Investments Committee. He was formerly a professor at Northwestern University and has also served as the Chief Executive Officer of the International Herald Tribune in Paris for fourteen years.

Director. He joined the Board as an independent non-executive director in September 2012 and is the Chairman of the Strategy and Investments Committee. He is the director of digital development at BBC News which publishes one of the worlds leading English language websites as well as digital news and features in 29 other languages. He previously worked as an Assistant Editor for the Financial Times. Bachelor of Arts in Politics and Philosophy (Hons) from the University of Durham (UK).
Director. Prof. Mugenda joined the board as an independent non-executive director in September 2010 and is a member of the Editorial and the Human Resources and Remuneration Committees. She was the Vice-Chancellor of Kenyatta University from 2006 until her retirement in March 2016, and has also held various senior lecturing positions at the University from 1984.
Director. Mr. Mwangi was appointed to the board as a non-executive director in July 2017 and is a member of the Editorial Committee. He is a media professional with more than 30 years experience in journalism. He previously worked for NMG rising to the position of Editorial Director.
