Joseph M. Kusaga

Joseph M. Kusaga

Joseph Kusaga, the founder of CLOUDS Entertainment, Limited was born and raised in Musoma, a town on the Lake Victoria shore. He moved to Dar es Salaam at the age of 5 after his father, who was a civil servant, was transferred to the country’s commercial hub. He is the forth in the family of nine children—five boys, and 4 girls.

Kusaga developed a passion for music at a very early age. He started to organize events when he was still at the college studying electronics. Although his father and mother did not see much of a future in doing events they trusted and had confidence in him, and eventually with the parents’ support, and within a very short time, he became a very popular DJ and event organizer.

He got the idea to start a media company during his visit to the USA, when he stayed New York City and Los Angeles and got inspired by the local music scene. In LA, he connected with his life-long business partner, Ruge Mutabaha, and started to plan a radio station for Tanzania that would later become Clouds FM.

Clouds - which stands for Cool, Lovable, Outrageous, Unique, Dynamic, Sound -was established in 1998 and has grown to become one of the most popular media houses in Tanzania. Clouds Entertainment Limited now includes Clouds FM, Primetime Promotions, Choice FM. Coconut Radio Station, Clouds TV, Ngoma Web TV and Kitangoma Magazine.

There is a company profile for Clouds Television at the Business Registrations and Licensing Agency (BRELA), according to which Alex Mkama Kusaga holds 25% of the shares, just as much as Joseph Kusaga. Clouds Entertainment Limited holds 50% of shares. The current shareholders of Clouds Entertainment are Joseph M. Kusaga (50%), Judith Violet Kusaga (10%), Sheba Martha Kusaga (10%), Dogan Andrew Kusaga (10%), Joyce Alex Kusaga (5%), Alex Justine Kusaga (5%), and Prisca Mkama Kusaga (10%).

The relation of Joseph to the Kusaga shareholders remains unclear.
